Yes, if you're running it in a jail, you can't tell it to connect to localhost, which is the default. Give it the IP/hostname of your FreeNAS installation.

@danb35 that makes sense, thanks. I changed it to the freenas IP (where web UI is running) and now I am getting the following:

~/deploy-freenas]# ./deploy_freenas.py
Error importing certificate!
<Response [200]>
