Jail losing shell history on exit

I have a jail where the shell history seems to be stuck at a certain point. Every command entered afterwards disappears from the history and I'm back to the same stop as when I originally consoled in.

What's weird is that it's not losing all of the history. Just everything from that session.

Any ideas why this would be happening?

I have no idea what changed, but now the jail is remembering some history. There doesn't seem to be a pattern for when it does and doesn't AFAICT.
