istgt_open_portal() failed ***ERROR***

Hello. I can't seem to get the iscsi service to start. I see istgt_open_portal() failed ***ERROR*** when logged into the console. When I try to go into the iscsi settings in the webgui, the iscsi settings page is blank. Is there something I could do from the console to maybe resolve the issue?

Maybe start by upgrading to a current version? If it is a bug it might be resolved already. Old versions are generally not supported here in the forum.

Good call. Now that you say that, I thought originally I was using 8.3 because it supports persistent scsi connections. Wierd. Maybe I used an old media when I installed this latest FreeNas.

Can I upgrade from the version I have to the newest or do I need to blow it away? I have some vms I'd like to not have to rebuild. Or can I possibly blow away the install and keep the data in tact? They are zfs volumes.

Yes, an upgrade will not harm your data, it should just work smoothly via GUI or ISO. Follow the update procedure outlined in the Wiki / manual. Save a backup of your current config before just in case (also via GUI, extended settings).
