Here is what I want to do with my setup. (2x2TB)

Create a ZFS mirrored volume
Set whole volume as iSCSI target
Mount iSCSI on our AD Domain Controller, formatting as NTFS
Make previous versions available on this share
Rsync backup to duplicate machine in another office (10G fibre link)

Where this seems to fall over is ZFS snapshotting, it looks like ZFS and restoring snapshots has no effect on the iSCSI share out to my DC.

Before you ask, I have already followed the guide out at http://www.raindropsoftware.co.uk/freenassetup, as found on this forum. There is something wrong that I haven't tracked down yet that prevents AD authentication, allowing me to just do a CIFS share with AD permission model. Don't know if I should invest more time tracking that down or trying to get iSCSI working as I want.

ZFS snapshots of ZVOLs work just fine as long as you have enough space for them in the parent filesystem...

It is tricky however, snapshotting a iscsi volume in use may result in a inconsistent image, thats why specific tools of the upper layer filesystem should be used...

Yeah, I noticed that happening. A colleague found the problem I was having, we have 2 AD machines here and they were out of sync. Shouldn't have impacted since I was querying only one, but forcing a resync did the trick.

I have another question, but I think I found the right forum to ask on, so new post or long search ahead of me.
