Is this still a bug from 2015?

Hi.

Just setup FreeNAS for the first time.
I'm new to this software but not particularly new to Linux or samba.

There is some strange dog going on with permissions which I've narrowed down to re-issued uid's. For example, create a user, add to smb share. Delete user, create another user and let it auto populate uid, usually it gets the deleted uid from previous user.

Try to add new smb permissions for new user and it complains with an error about previous user.

Even clearing the acl, saving then reapplying new user it gives errors.
I've tried this twice on fresh installs.

?????

Did you setup FreeNAS or TrueNAS? TrueNAS CORE or TrueNAS SCALE? If you are using TrueNAS SCALE as you suggest by posting in this part of the forum, how can this be a bug from 2015? TrueNAS SCALE did not exist back then.

Please specify your environment a bit more precisely.

TrueNAS scale.

Yes I guess I missed that freenas but.
Still, it sounds like the same issue I think.
