So I'm still new to FreeNAS/BSD, and I've purchased a Watchguard Firebox X750e that I'm going to install pfsense onto. Part of the process involves connecting to an RS232 port via a null modem cable. Finding a box that has a COM port on it is proving to be not so easy. However, the box that I just built for FreeNAS has a COM port on it.

I'm wondering if I can somehow utilize that port to initiate a terminal session somehow. I do not have virtualization of any kind running on the FreeNAS box, so I can't install an OS to utilize that port.

I figured that even though this isn't a pfSense board, this might be the place to start asking to see if this is even possible. I believe the one requirement is that I need to be able to set the baud rates of the sessions.

Any ideas if this is possible?

Thanks,
Phil

I may need to try that route, but the cables are more than that, so I was hoping there may be a way to go through the server since they'll be next to each other and I already have the other cable. This way I could also leave them hooked up for remote terminal access to the switch when needed.
