After upgrade from 11.3 U2.1 to 12.0 U8.1 I'm having odd connectivity issues. Using smb on my win 10 pc im having weird slow downs. I will be accessing files/folders and every so often it will just freeze and hang for 5-10 seconds inconstantly.
If i have a video open with vlc it will also freeze for 5-10 seconds. If i leave a video paused and come back to it later and hit play, it will play for a few seconds then go to the start again. Also noticed using scroll wheel for changing volume is very slow and not responsive.
If i send a continuous the ping to Truenas, when i experience these freezes, the ping says request timed out.
When copying, it will drop to 0 for the time then pick back up to full gigabit.
If i open the web GUI it helps a lot. Instead of timing out/video pausing/file explorer hanging every minute or 2, it only happens maybe once every 5-10 mins or so, which confused me more. And the vlc volume feels more responsive as well as seeking.
I am hesitate to believe this is solely because of the Truenas upgrade, because i think i feel like i have experienced this issue before years ago on a older version of Freenas but not sure.
I tried Truenas last year, when it was new and this happened so i went back to 11.3 and it got rid of the issue. I thought after a year or 2 i would try Truenas again but it seems like maybe my system just isnt playing nice with it. Didnt have any plugins on 11.3 or on 12.0 when i upgraded but in the last 2 days i have added 2 (1 being qbittorrent). This didnt change the issue. (i thought having a qbittorrent client open would possibly stop the disconnects). It seems to not be affected?
What i have tried:
-Checking /var/messages. nothing notable there
-Checked status of zpool. no errors.
-Tried different PC's and my phone to see if client was the issue.
-Yes i changed the ethernet cable, no change..
-probably other basic things that i cant remember.
Not great with Linux but know the basics, only used for file server, and very recently some torrents. only smart and smb services turned on.
I have tried searching around for anyone with anything similar and have turned up nothing, so thought i would finally make a account and make a post. any ideas/things to try or test/solutions would be greatly appreciated.
I haven't accepted the new ZFS version yet, so worst case i go back to Freenas and just never upgrade? and see if my newly installed plugins work. Since the reason i upgraded was due to not being able to install plugins with the GUI on Freenas 11.3. Or do i just have the web GUI open on my PC all the time?
