Intel 31244 PCI-X to Serial ATA (PV 745N)

I am using a dell powervault 745N, with the 4 port SATA controller module (Intel 31244 PCI-X to Serial ATA). This is not the same as the on-board 2 port SATA controller.

During the post, the system detects the controller and that fact that there are 4 disks connected to it. However, the drives are unconfigured yet they do not appear as disks to the OS.

I am wondering if anyone else has seen this behavior, and if so whether or not they were able to get FreeNAS to work with disks attached to this controller.

My first guess is that the PCI-X controller you have isn't compatible with FreeNAS/FreeBSD. PCI-X is quite old, so I wouldn't be too surprised if it's not supported with such a modern OS.
