Installing python packages

I am looking to install psutil (https://code.google.com/p/psutil/) and pySerial (http://pyserial.sourceforge.net/) into FreeNAS, for the purpose of comunicating with an Arduino via USB to display system stats, etc, on an LCD.

How would I go about installing these packages, since the filesystem is readonly?

You need to create a jail in order to install software on FreeNAS. How to do so depends upon the FreeNAS version, so be sure to read the Jails chapter in the downloadble PDF of the Guide for your version of FreeNAS.

Once you have a jail, both of these apps have been ported to FreeBSD, meaning that you can install the FreeBSD package from the command line of the jail. The command you use depends upon whether you are using 8.x or 9.x, so again, refer to that section in the PDF of the Guide for your version.
