Hi everyone,

This is my first post here and i have an issue when trying to install TrueNAS scale from my PXE server
I downloaded TrueNAS-SCALE-22.02.3.iso and extract vmlinuz and initrd.img to a folder that are available from a web server.

The PXE server is under a VM (proxmox) and working well
I created a vm to boot from my PXE server and failed with different configuration:

LABEL TrueNAS-SCALE-22.02.3
MENU LABEL TrueNAS SCALE 22.02.3
kernel http://192.168.122.1/truenas-scale-22.02.3/vmlinuz
initrd http://192.168.122.1/truenas-scale-22.02.3/initrd.img

LABEL ISO-TrueNAS-SCALE-22.02.3
MENU LABEL TrueNAS SCALE 22.02.3 ISO
KERNEL memdisk
INITRD http://192.168.122.1/iso/TrueNAS-SCALE-22.02.3.iso
APPEND iso raw

I tested these configurations and others on my pxe server and failed (see attached screenshot)

Can someone help me to configure the PXE server in order to install TrueNAS scale ?

Regards

You imply you are using a VM to install TrueNAS SCALE.

Why don't you just attach the ISO image file to the VM temporarily, and use that to install?

If you intend to install on bare metal, please list the hardware.

Hi
Thank you for your reply
I also tested that solution and i get the same result
For the moment i only tested with a VM, i will try to test later when the hardware will be available

Sorry, I have no suggestions. Most of the VM installs of TrueNAS mentioned here in the forums, are using VMWare.

I typically just dd the ISO onto a USB thumb drive.

But I’ve also had success with feeding the ISO into VMWare as if it were a DVD.

And with launching it from Ventoy.

Also from netboot.xyz, if I recall correctly.

But not while sharing a hypervisor with the PXE server; that’s more entanglement than I’d care to troubleshoot.
