So this is the somewhat notorious IcyDock cage that has an odd "legacy" pinout for their SFF-8643 miniSAS HD connectors (as noted in their FAQ), which generally only behaves well with NVMe HBA's that have special tri-mode SAS cables.


While this post is intended to collect people's experiences with the cage, I am also posting because apparently there appears to finally be a proper OcuLink adapter cable available for it.

It's listed as providing compatibility between an Intel AXXP3SWX08080 PCIe OcuLink card that has 8 OcuLink ports (and thus a PLX chip, believed to be a PMC-Sierra PFX series chip, rather than ASmedia), and the IcyDock NVMe cage.

There's a chance it might also be compatible with a similar Supermicro OcuLink card (AOC-SLG3-8E2P). The Intel card is obnoxious as it has half the connectors using right angle connectors which are not common, but MicroSATAcables seems to also be selling right angle OcuLink adapter cables too now.
