Hi all, last week I update to 9.10 and I'm seeing the warning that I need to update to the P13 firmware for my SAS card. I've downloaded the ROM and BIOS files but before I proceed I'd like to know two things

1) How likely is it that I can flash this hardware from the FreeNAS shell using sas3flash
2) Will I need to reboot for the changes to take effect

Most of the discussions I see show recommendation to use an EFI shell to flash the hardware. I'm not opposed to going this route but it will likely increase downtime as I'm not likely to get it right the first time. Is there a reason more people don't flash from inside a running FreeNAS?

Thanks

Well the update from within FreeNAS worked fine. Unfortunately I flashed version 13 to the card and now I'm ahead of FreeNAS :(

I saw all these threads on the forums about the jacked-up versioning of the LSI firmware so I thought by installing version 13 firmware I would satisfy the requirement for version 12. Turns out that's wrong. Now the warning is

Firmware version 13 does not match driver version 12 for /dev/mpr0. Please flash controller to P12 IT firmware.

Yeah, the message was improved a while back because people were very clueless as to what to do. Unfortunately, the good folks at LSI/Broadcom/Avago decided that version N drivers should pair up with version N-1 firmware. There's a ticket for this message to be fixed:

You need P11 firmware for the time being.
