Will be building a PC using an HTPC case. As a lot of people here use NAS for media, I'm guessing there is probably a lot of experience with HTPC cases here as well.
I've only previously built towers where I quickly learned bigger fans are less noisy but this case is low profile.
I'm not building an HTPC - just using the case, because it will be located in my multimedia cabinet placed under my cable box (with 1x1 stick to give better air flow between them)
Case I am thinking of : Silverston ML40B
It will be a NAT router + unbound recursive DNS for my LAN + CentOS 7 / EPEL yum mirror for my LAN (I have several CentOS 7 machines)
The only drive installed will be an Intel 535 120GB SSD - which is more than enough space for base CentOS 7 + the yum repos.
Intended CPU is Intel i3-4370 Haswell w/ stock HSF - will use 8 GB of RAM.
The CPU says it is 54W
I don't think the CPU will ever really get taxed. NIC is Intel EXP1940PTBLK so the CPU doesn't need to do a lot for the NAT part.
(yes that card is overkill but the four ports will let me have several separated networks w/o needing expensive managed switched for VLAN)
The case says it supports 4 80mm fans, but I suspect using 4 may be noisy.
Is two fans enough or should I use the four ? Can four be done quietly ?
