Hi,

Glad to meet you. I just learned about FreeNAS.

A D-Link DNS-320 has been my first NAS for a year or two. The idea of it suits me well. I just replaced my dead 320 and I'm thinking, I don't plan to buy a new one of these every couple of years. Now that I can see the value of this device, I would be able to appreciate something a bit more capable. Then I read about FreeNAS. It just so happens that I recently built a new box, and I have this old Win XP box sitting around just waiting for a new reason for existing. (wheels turning, smoke coming)

I'm no admin, but I know how to learn, and I love new projects.

as well as the "sticky" posts at the top of each section here in the forums. Make sure your hardware meets the minimum requirements or be prepared for unpredictable problems.

Thanks for the link to the docs, you saved me hunting for it. And yes, a HW Reqs overview is one of the first things on my list.
