How to set default permission on new files

It's been a year since I took my linux fundamentals class and I can't for the life of me remember how to set up default permissions for new files. What's happening is that any file copied from a paticular device to the share is automatically getting read-only permissions applied. I need to have default permission of 770 applied to all future files that might be transferred over.

How can I go about that?

First you have to answer: using what protocol? FTP? CIFS? NFS? AFP?

Short answer is: file mask.

In CIFS settings there is a field called File mask, put 0007 there

William, is it possible to have two shares setup with one defaulting permissions on new files and folders to 700 and the other defaulting permissions to 755?
