How to free drive space

Hi all,

I'm using a FreeNAS system for the whole purpose of acting as a Veeam repository. The FreeNAS repository is connected via iSCSi to the Veeam server. This system worked flawlessly for the last 2 years. During a recent creation of a full backup it seems that the FreeNAS was running out space.

FreeNAS reported > 96% utilization, whereas the server acting as Veeamserver reported nearly 2.5TB of space left.
In the mean time I even deleted another 2.5TB file, so that Windows reports 5TB free but FreeNAS still reports a full drive.

How can I really free some space?

The FreeNAS repository is connected via iSCSi to the Veeam server.
With iSCSI, block storage, you are not supposed to use more than 50% of the pool capacity because, when you do, the performance suffers greatly.
FreeNAS reported > 96% utilization
Once an iSCSI extent consumes space, it is difficult to get that space back.
You should start reading with this resource:
https://www.ixsystems.com/community...quires-more-resources-for-the-same-result.41/
and continue to read other forum posts about iSCSI because you could have saved yourself some pain now by doing this research first.

Difficult but not impossible?

I'll definitely read the referenced post and will take the information into account for the next installation.

I can see hidden Recycle bin directories. When I try to delete them, Windows asks if I'm really sure. There is nothing inside.

The FreeNAS GUI however still shows only 3GiB free.

In the mean time I worked with sdelete as mentioned above.

The warnings from FreeNAS are gone but...

Why are the values of available space differ for Veeam (only 50G) and VeeamSC (7.5T)?

Do you have any snapshots?

I have to admit, that I'm not familiar with the naming scheme. If I select VeeamSC in the storage section of the FreeNAS GUI I see the below Icons with edit/destroy zvol. So I assume that VeeamSC is a zvol.

There are no snapshots, at least I can't see any in that section of the GUI.
