How to connect disks (block devices) from network storage to TrueNAS?

The ability to be a domain controller disappeared many version back (I think in the FreeNAS days).

You can run a Linux box and use SAMBA or use Windows, but it can be problematic to use VMs on the cluster itself for that as it won't be started when the cluster starts.

When you start a server, can the VM that's on that server already be started first? No.
