How to allow local users to change password?

Right now I’m trying to setup a NAS for several users so they can use sftp, ftp, and cifs with local user authentication. The problem is if users want to change their password, they have to command line “passwd” because there is no GUI login for normal users. But the password for cifs does not change after using passwd.
Can anyone give me some suggestion?

This has already been brought up before, search, it was just posted recently. It's a known issue and is being worked on.
