I have a question about memory usage with the FreeNAS kernel. I have 3GB memory and FreeNAS happily runs along using about 500MB and then I start the plugin for transmission and add a couple of torrents. The memory usage shoots up to the max and stays there for days or until I kill transmission. The only memory that stays down low is the "Wired" memory.

Is this a normal thing for FreeNAS memory use pattern?

There are already some threads discussing memory usage and "wired" memory under FreeBSD:
- Increased Memory Usage
- wired memory
- and some others, use the forum search or google.

If you are using ZFS then it is quite normal and expected that all available RAM will be used after a while.
On the other hand, transmission could be the problem here - You can check the running system processes from the GUI or from the shell with the command 'top' to see a listing of which process utilizes how much CPU and RAM.
Are you experiencing performance issues or any other problems when the memory is maxed out?
