How does changing snap shot lifetime affect replication?

Hi all

Title says it all. I'm thinking of reducing the snapshot lifetime on my dataset and am just wondering how it will affect my ZFS replica? Will the master just start destroying the now out-of-date snapshots, and then when the replication script kicks in the same will happen on the slave and everything will just be happy?

I'm just a bit cautious if it will break replication in any way.

Thanks!

It will not break replication. However, it will also not start destroying "out-of-date" snapshots. When you change the lifetime it only applies to new snapshots -- the lifetime is "stored" in the name of each snapshot. Editing the snapshots task setting will cause the new snapshots to be crated with the new lifetime, but existing ones will not be changed and will be destroyed according to the original lifetime.
