High Performance All SSD Array?

Why go with FC(which is virtually impossible if someone has to ask how hard it is to implement) when you can buy 10Gb LAN cards for $120 each on ebay. I got direct 10Gb from my main desktop to my server and total cost(if I had paid for it) would have been about $270 with cabling.

Yeah, I did a bit more research on FC and came to the same conclusion. I saw the FC thread in the hacking subforum on here and as soon as he said "modify the kernel" I decided that would be WAAYYY too much heartache.

I wonder if I could scavenge some 10g NICs from work. We dispose of servers by the pallet...

hm... I may be feeling a bit stupid right now for recycling some of my old 4g fibre switches. %^@*!(

If you're just connecting two machines, you can set them up as point-to-point quite inexpensively. But at this point the thought experiment is getting a little off track, and dangerously close to starting up the old FC vs iSCSI holy wars here. ;)

Before you swear too much, you might want to read up on this thread... It sounds doable, but quite a bit can go wrong. I'd imagine the ESXi route would be quite a bit easier.
