Hi all,
I'm Rene, from Holland, and a recent FreeNAS user. I must say i'm really impressed with this product! Since reading into ZFS i wanted a NAS at home which used that filesystem. I found FreeNAS, and first tried it on a Pentium 700, with 256MB....ouch! :)
Dropped the project, until i recently aquired a HP XW4600 with 4GB (hopefully soon 8GB) which could sufficiently handle the load. I like FreeNAS's GUI, the ability to run from USB, and ZFS's focus on data integrity. I'm thinking of moving data from my 'old' NAS/SAN (OpenFiler, which i'll keep running because it supports Fibre Channel target mode) to FreeNAS, and let my old NAS just present FC LUNs to the other machines in my collection. Currently there are several older, non-Windows based machines that i tinker with in the (very) few moments i can spare next to my role as dad, husband, and domestic handyman. Among the other hardware are SGIs, Sun Ultras, a VAX, IBM POWER4 and xSeries, and a iMac G4.
So, if time permits, i'll be visiting this forum regularly :)
