I have a Qnap TS-1079 With 10x 8TB WD Red WD80EFZX (I think CMR Drives purchased in 2017)
The QNAP back plane has suddenly failed and taken out 2 Disks as well. I have luckily recovered the data using another enclosure. I cannot source a backplane and not really upto date.
I am considering TrueNas Raid Z2 configuration with the 10 Disks. I am wondering if I can somehow put the disks into some kind of enclosure and connect them on to the Dell machine and run truenas as a VM on it. I will be increasing the RAM and possibly adding a couple of SSDs for OS/Cacheing. Current Build Specs below.

Dell Outlet Precision 7820 Tower (Current Home server running ESXi 6.7)
32GB (4x8GB) 2666MHz DDR4 RDIMM ECC
2x Kingston Dell KTD-PE426/32G 32GB DDR4 2666Mhz ECC Registered Memory RAM DIMM
2x 1TB SATA SSD in Raid providing 95.5 Gb Usable space
Intel Xeon Silver 4110 Processor (8 Core, Up to 3.0GHz, 11M Cache, 85W)
Intel Integrated controller (RST-e) with 1-2 Front FlexBay NVMe Drives
Dual Intel Xeon Silver 4110 Processor (8 Core, Up to 3.0GHz, 11M Cache, 85W)
2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon Pro WX 2100
Riser Card and Mid-Wall including Air shroud Cover for 2nd CPU module
Tower Chassis 950W
Dell M.2 carrier
8 Port Broadcom MegaRAID 9440-8i, 12Gb/s SAS/SATA/NVMe, PCIe 3.1

ESXI Host 6.7 Running the below VMs
Load Balancer
Firewall
3 Windows Machines
3 Unix Machines
Vcenter

Current Utilisation
--------------------
Capacity Free
CPU 33.52GHz 27Ghz
Memory 95.6GB 25GB
Storage 945GB 408GB

Or Is it worth building a new Machine with new hardware and run it as a dedicated TrueNas server. I am running Plex etc on the QNAP at that moment. Any guidance would be massively appreciated.

If going down the new hardware route I am considering the below

Cooler Master Cosmos 2 ( My Old Computer Case)
Intel Xeon Processor E5-2643 v4
X11SRL-F MotherBoard
64-128GB ECC RAM
2x 512/1tb SSD for OS/Cacheing

Is there any point using 5 year old drives or do I have a better chance just buying newer High capacity ones drives. With the rising energy costs in the UK I am trying to keep the power draw to a minimum too. I am totally lost and any help would be greatly appreciated.
