Hi All

I am was looking everywhere but I wast able to find any info on the support of the Adaptec PM8018 cards.

Did anyone use one of these with FreeNAS?

In general the Adaptec cards aren't {well,} supported because Adaptec no longer provides drivers or documentation. I would expect it not to work.

Hate to see Adaptec's decline. I have fond memories of my 1542B and 2940UW... back when the world was young and my hair wasn't gray...

Memories? I still have cards in inventory. Probably plus some 3940 and 39160.

From Adaptec's point of view, they probably felt that they weren't really getting a lot of business from the non-Windows side of thing, so they kinda checked out right as open source was really taking off and LSI just kinda came to rule the world.

I still use an PCI adaptec to drive a tape drive on a nas. This is from dmesg:
ahd0: <Adaptec 29320ALP Ultra320 SCSI adapter> port 0xc400-0xc4ff,0xc800-0xc8ff mem 0xfba7e000-0xfba7ffff irq 48 at device 1.0 on pci6

But I am just bragging :)

Pfft... I got a 500 8-Track Tape Changer connected to a 2400 baud modem via COM Port; just to backup my FreeNAS Configs... ;)

It isn't a good idea to use a RAID controller with ZFS even on Linux. You'd be better off getting a proper HBA and then FreeNAS will be fine.

Okay, now I have a comeback for whenever you say I am using janky old hardware... :P

Huh? That's relatively modern gear... if you want janky old hardware, I've got a Synertek SYM-1 not-new but still in box.

All the kids think the Grinch is a Carrey thing, that cheap ripoff of the Boris Karloff masterpiece.
"Oh, you poor old thing, here, sit down. Can we get you a cushion or something?" Bahahahahaha!
