Hi all
I have server with 8 HDDs' with Hardware RAID controller (+ CF card).

I have 2 installation options, which one is more correct way?

1. Configure RAID controller in JBOD mode for 8 drives, and create software RAIDZ2
2. Configure Hardware RAID10 from controller and create UFS

thank you

Whichever one you want. ZFS is "cooler" but may be a bit slower and memory piggy. On the other hand, you get way cool features and capabilities. Hardware RAID10 will probably be faster and use less memory, but you get less storage, etc.

I don't need speed
I need reliable NAS for backups
Is it OK install FreeNAS over hardware RAID ?

That isn't recommended. I'd suggest you use JBOD mode and let FreeNAS manage the drives in RAIDZ2 pool. That is, if your controller is supported. You don't mention which one you're using.

I also suggest reading noobsauce80's ZFS primer.
