Ok... I know this is asked a million times.. Just curious if any red flags I'm missing.
Running Freenas now TrueNas 13 on an old Dell PC.. has been working perfectly but time to build a new, better box.

Main use is storage. I am a semi pro photographer so main thing is storage.. but I also run a PLEX server... not used often, just occasionally

Currently running 5 4TB drives in RAID z2

Would love to just bring the drives and pools over to the new system and have researched that.. but just curious about these hardware choices
Looks like they would do what I want and Yes, I have read the various guides (thanks to those who have put those together!)
So
MOBO: Asrock B550M Pro4 AM4
CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
RAM: 2x Kingston 8GB DDR4 ECC DIMM https://www.newegg.com/kingston-8gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/0RN-001J-00U07

NIC I l already have with Intel chip
For Boot, I currently use 2 mirrored USB drives.. may stick with that or use M.2

SATA, still working on... either a SATA card or HBA card
But main question for now are the big three above...

Thanks for any input!
Cheers

Well crap...I'm a dufus! Not sure how as I've been looking at 400 different things. but looks like MOBO, nor CPU support ECC..... still trying to decide if I need that or not...

Move off USB drives if you can, mirrored is great, but a single small SSD is better over all, unless you back up your TrueNAS config often to restore if ever needed..

more ram.. 16GB is the bare minimum, more ram, more speed in general.

Ideally, moving off of consumer motherboards and cpu's, and getting user gear like a supermicro or something, would be more overall "reliable" even if you do not heavily use the system.

Ok different route... I think!

Mobo: Supermicro MBD X11SSL-F-O
CPU: Intel Pentium G4600 3.6Ghz

Should work for me.. again this is just data storage with very occasional plex...
and Yea...RAM is cheap, will up that....
Thoughts?

Nope looks fine as far as compatibility goes.
