Hello,
I'm new to FreeNAS (and to using NAS in general) and I'd like to set up a system at home that would allow me to manage, backup, keep safe and access all my home media. After some research, FreeNAS seems to be the perfect option and I'm now into the hardware part of the proccess. However, I'd like to confirm I'm on the right track to achieve my system and what kind/level of hardware would be best fitted for my case, cost/use-wise.
Specifically, I'd like to have a setup that would allow me to:
- Store all my pictures, videos and documents, acessible through the home network and eventually remotely (mobile app?);
- Be able to plug my camera or external drives directly to it and copy the contents to the NAS (remotely?);
- Give me some level of protection against data loss;
- Download and manage my torrents (movies/series), both manually (remote from PC) and automatically (RSS?) Eventually, download subtitles and manage media info like covers/art?
- If remote access is possible, define user profiles or public/private access. I'd like to access all but be able to share some folders with others (ie family photos)
- Stream the media folders to Raspberry Pi, subtitles included.
- NAS would be on 24/7 on living room, so needs to be silent and energy-efficient.
Am I correctly hoping that I can do all of this with FreeNAS? Which kind of hardware should I look for, on a budget?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
