So I have been using FreeNAS for a while now and have finally got a set-up I am proud of. What do you think?

Home Network
Cisco SG-500X 48P setup as standalone
Supermicro A1SRi-2758F in a 1U case and a mellanox connect-x 2 10G
Direct attach copper cables running to all 10G NIC's

FreeNAS System
Mobo: Supermicro x9srl-f
CPU: Intel Xeon E5 2606 v2
RAM: 96 GB ECC DDR3
RAID Controller: LSI 9211-8
HDD's
Spinners: 14x 4 TB WD Red Pro drives
SSD: 240 GB Kingston SSD Now
FreeNAS os: 32 GB thumb drive
Network: Mellanox connect-x 2


Workstation
CPU: Intel Core i7 5820k
Mobo: AsRock Fatality x99 Killer
RAM: 64GB DDR4
EVGA Nvidia GTX 970 SSC
HDD's
Spinners: 2x 4TB WD Black
SSD RAID: 2x 240 GB kingston SSD Now in RAID0
Main SSD: Samsung Evo 850 M.2
Network: mellanox connect-x 2

That's some serious hardware you have there. Whereabouts from Michigan are you from?

I am in the middle Michigan area between Flint, Lansing, and Brighton MI

I actually didn't know where Brighton was and had to look, but I'm guessing you're maybe an hour and a half driving away from him.

Always curious when a local is on the board. Living in a rural area is like being on a virtual island for a techno nerd.

yeah it is. Charter comes to 2 houses down from me. and they said it would cost upwards of 12K to pull it down to me...

Luckily I have awesome neighbors and they let me start an account at their house in my name and put in a pair of Nanostation M5's, on there house and one at mine and can get the 60 meg connection.

Frontier only supplies max 3 meg down 768 up in my area. I got 2 lines installed and bonded them in my pfsense and could use all 6. but got bogged down in no time.

Same situation here only there is nothing out my way and no chance of it ever happening. I'm on a wireless connection from a local ISP with 6Mbit down and 1.2Mbit up and that was after begging them for more bandwidth.

That was going to be my alternate was a WISP. They wanted $140/mo for 14 down 3 up....

at least work has 1gig pipe

Mine is $60/month with a static IP. I just wish I had other options.......
