Thank you for the suggestion- but this is a fresh installation of the Freenas 8.2 release p1 and fresh jails .... BUTTT your suggestion an idea of "dirty config" data got me thinking.

I've loaded my config file in every situation and have yet to config the jail and plugins on a "fresh" setup without loading my config file. I'll give this a shot and report back.

Well- i've tried a fresh install without loading my config file to no avail. Same results.

So i've wiped everything in a best effort to give myself a clean slate.

I've flashed my router, setup a fresh pool, installed a fresh copy of 8.2 release p1, fresh jails, different ip's. After all of this- i still cannot ping my jail from any computer on the network. Setting up transmission and trying to access the webgui still does not work.

I'd love to hear from anyone out there that CAN access the transmission webgui.

Any suggestions on work arounds, tips or tricks to troubleshoot this would be great.

I'm not sure if this is worthy of creating a support ticket? If so- how do i go about doing that?

Is it possible to manually set the jail ip via cmd line? Is there a config file I can look at if I ssh to my Freenas box?

Maybe I should redownload all of the Freenas install files, jail/transmission & minidlna pbi's.

I'll do this and report back

**Doing this also did not change my results. Still cannot ping jail from any device on network & cannot access transmission webgui

Well- I must apologize for the countless posts i've made.

I found a solution which does not relate to Freenas. I must also apologize for the fact that looking back at all of my posts regarding THIS matter- i do not mention that i'm running esxi 5- and have freenas installed as a vm- with the other hard drives being passed to the freenas vm.

The solution for me to be able to PING my jail from any computer on my network was to make a change in the networking configuration in esxi. In the host- under configuration- i changed the properties to my vswitch (vm network) to ACCEPT 'Promiscuous Mode'

Making this change- allowed me to ping my jail from my desktop computer.

I have also installed the Transmission plugin- and can now access the transmission webui going to JAILIP:9091

I hope that this thread helps others- Let me know if this is the fix for the rest of those out there dealing with similar issues.

Yeah, hiding the fact your FreeNAS is a VM was not very smart, i knew it had to be done for ESXi...

Thanks for clarifying and sharing with others.

Thanks a lot matlock. Even though the IP displayed correctly, i wasn't able to reach it. Within FreeNAS all well, from outside not possible. Turning on promiscuous mode solved it. That probably saved me a lot of time troubleshooting. Thx again!

Thank you! Same thing for me, running Freenas 8.3 under esxi 5. ACCEPT 'Promiscuous Mode' did the trick!

THANK YOU!

This saved my evening, was trying pretty much the same setup as you, was able to ping the jail from my freenas on my esxi, but anywhere outside my vmware it was impossible. promiscious mode fixed it for me, thanks!!!!!!!!
