Hi everybody,
it's the second time I write so please have a little mercy on me for my newbie-ness ;)
I own a PC with these specs:

  • CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E4500
  • MoBo Abit LG-95C
  • 2Gb RAM
  • 2 HD da 25GB SATA
  • 1 HD da 500GB SATA

I'd like to ask three questions:

  1. Due to the obsolescence of the system, have I to use FreeNAS 7 or the 64bit FreeNAS 8 version ?
  2. Is there a way to use the full terabyte of available space instead of 250Gb x 3 = 750 Gb, being 250Gb the less common denominator? I prefer to have room space than security in this installation.
  3. According to the hardware, is it better UFS or ZFS?

Thanks to all for the kind replies. :)

I'm quite new myself, having built my system and upgraded to 8.3.0 Beta 1. Based on what I know FreeNAS 8 is fine. However with 2GB think you should use UFS. As for Qns 2, I'm assuming your stripping, I think the short ans is no. Other more experienced members can chip in...
