FreeNAS unable to open ATA device - should I worry?

2 days ago i got a single - critical system alert - Device: /dev/ada1, unable to open ATA device

I can see the disc in the view discs tab should i be worried by this single event ?

is there anything i could do to ensure everything is ok ?

looks like the working pool hasn't finished scrubbing - seems to be stuck

I'm assuming the ada1 drive is connected to one of the motherboard SATA ports,
Look up that drive's serial number and record it's SATA port location.
You need to look at data cable, power cable, and SATA port if you want answers.
I personally would not panic, just would look hard at the issue if it re-occurs.

Hardware all looks good. Like @BigDave said start looking at cables and such. Might not hurt to replace the SATA cable that goes to ada1.

it started yesterday and it's only at 4k - should be all done by now

It is done, that date shows the last scrub/resilver. It repaired 4k which would be consistent with a momentary loss of connection with one drive like you experienced.
