FreeNAS storage in virtualbox

I have a question:

I understand ZFS with multiple drives is the preferred option, but if you run FreeNAS in VirtualBox on one drive and have a vdi data file on another drive, what happens if the vdi file corrupts?

Does that mean all data in that one vdi file is corrupt?

That's exactly what it means. Virtual box is great for trying out freenas or running any desktop distro. Never put important data in a VM without understanding what you are doing
