FreeNAS serving mkv files to another PC that will convert them on the fly for PS3/iOS

Hello everyone!

I currently have an atom D525 with Windows XP with PS3 Media Server and Air Video Server installed. Also, uTorrent and LogmeIn (for remote control), so you can see how bad it is, lol.

I have another PC lying around here, an Athlon X2 4000+.

My question is, can I use one PC as a freenas, serving files for another PC to convert them to PS3 or iPad? The files would be mostly 720p MKV movies.

I don't mind using UFS. Don't really need backup - no important files are stored. I just need the files to be transferred fast enough for my other PC to convert them.

Or is there another way? I *must* convert every file, because I have to add subtitles on them.

Look into the freenas 8.0.3 multimedia builds with minidlna included. This will serve files to your ps3
