Hey there,

i know they´re is a Thread with this topic already but its closed and its old.
So I´m going to reopen it.
I want to switch from the bad OS on the TS-251+ to TrueNAS Scale or eben TrueNAS Core.

Here are the Specs of the NAS:
CPU: J1900 (4 cores, 4 Threads)
RAM 16 GB
BIOS: QW37AR32

it "just" has 2 HDD´s possible but I´m going to build additionally a DIY FreeNAS Scale in the next days, will migrate everything and then try to run it.
Someone has any experience to install TrueNAS on a "prebuild" NAS from QNAP?

There are people with experience regarding QNAP and TrueNAS. Main issue Is very rough fan control.
Just a heads up: you probably want to post here.

I installed TrueNAS on a TS-853a. I also put 16GB into it (despite QNAP saying 8MB only).
It works quite well.
I have no control over the LCD Display (which is partially broken anyway)
The fans were too noisy so I used quieter fans rather than script control (but they were good ones). The temps are fine despite the lack of noise (and no its not completely quiet)

It works well in my use case as a Replication target for backups. Not sure I would want to use it as a primary NAS
