I just don't know where to put that script in? Do I run that in the shell?

Put it anywhere you like, that you have write access to. You would normally schedule the running of the script using cron, say once a week (ie. over a weekend).

Thank you I will give that a try and get back here with the results.
How long does a scrub usually take, on a 500GB mirror? (2 HDDs)

Hard to say, as it depends on a number of factors (ie. speed of processor, disk subsystem, contention with other users, available RAM, level of redundancy ie. RAID-Z1 involves more CPU overhead than straight mirroring).

What I can say is that scrubbing 2TB of RAIDZ1 data across 4 disks on an AMD Athlon Neo 1.3GHz dual-core (about the same as your typical Atom dual-core) with 4GB RAM and no user contention takes 3 hours 45 minutes so in your case for 500GB mirrored, maybe 1 hour at most (but almost certainly less).
