SOLVED FreeNAS looking outside for timeservice - necessary?

I don't want FNAS going outside for anything. Will there be a problem if I point ntpd at my firewall, which is the local timeserver for my lan?

Nope, as long as it is running ntpd. Use the GUI to delete the default NTP servers and to add your own.
