Hi,

For the last few days, at 5AM I received emails "freenas.local daily security run output".

Two days ago, all it read was:

freenas.local kernel log messages:

WARNING: 192.168.1.161 (iqn.1991-05.com.microsoft:starscream): no ping reply (NOP-Out) after 5 seconds; dropping connection
WARNING: 192.168.1.254 (naa.851c7e79985042478a61532ae53aaa65): no ping reply (NOP-Out) after 5 seconds; dropping connection

-- End of security output --

Today it read:

freenas.local kernel log messages:

WARNING: 192.168.1.161 (iqn.1991-05.com.microsoft:starscream): no ping reply (NOP-Out) after 5 seconds; dropping connection

-- End of security output --

I assume this has something to do with my iSCSI setup:

"Starscream" is a Windows VM running in Parallals on a Mac Mini. Both the VM and Mac Mini has an iSCSI connection to my FreeNAS Server:

Starscream VM: iqn.1991-05.com.microsoft:starscream
Mac Mini: naa.851c7e79985042478a61532ae53aaa65

I checked the logs on both clients, and there doesn't appear to be any reboots. Neither of the clients carry any particular heavy load. The FreeNAS server is extremely overpowered (2x6 core Xeon, 64GB ram) for what it does, so I don't believe the issue is due to not enough resources, as other threads have suggested.

The emails are confusing since I don't experience any disconnects while using the iSCSI shares, so I presume they are disconnected at night for some reason.

Any ideas how I might troubleshoot this further?

Appreciate your help.

Is that the extent of the entries (one or two per email)? If so, it may just be a transient network error that doesn't affect the connection.

What is the network driver in ifconfig?
