This morning I received the following message from my FreeNAS box:
Code:
freenas.local kernel log messages:

igb0: link state changed to DOWN
igb0: link state changed to UP
igb0: link state changed to DOWN
igb0: link state changed to UP

-- End of security output --

Without a time for each occurrence, the output isn't really helpful. I presume there's a reason the time is specifically excluded from messages?

I would say the time is excluded because the driver doesn't provide the date/time when it's reporting the change in state.

I hadn't thought of it that way. I would've just assumed the logging daemon would've made a note of the time of the event. I hadn't thought of it relying on the driver to report the time.

You could probably put in a request to have the error timestamped by the OS when the entry is made. :P
