FreeNAS GUI for FreeBSD

After using FreeNAS for a couple of weeks and more recently FreeBSD I was wondering if anyone had ever thought of putting together web based frontend like FreeNAS's to be able to administer FreeBSD...

You could try webmin.

I use webmin to admin my Ubuntu server, it works well...took some getting used too, and configuring it to send emails and monitor things is a bit time consuming and a pain in the butt.
