Hi, everyone
I'm not entirely new to FreeNAS i've been using it at home as a media center for a few years with now issues. I'd like to deploy FreeNAS at a small company of about 10 people. Here is what I have far:
Dell Precision T5500 workstation: 2x Intel Xeon X5675 @ 3.07GHz: 72GB of RAM
2x HGST Deskstar NAS 3.5-Inch 4TB 7200RPM SATA III 64MB Cache Internal Hard Drive Kit (0S03664)
1 Intel SSD Drive 100GB (used came with the workstation - Connected to onboard SATA Port) FreeNAS installed 30GB partitioned from ESXI.
1 Megaraid Sas 9240-8I Single ( Flashed to IT-Mode)
1 San Disk Cruzer (Installed ESXi 6.0 Hypervisor)
Purposed Servers/Services
Windows 2008R2 (File Storage and PDC)
Windows 2008R2 (Development Box)
Windows 2008R2 (2nd Development Box / Database hosting) (The Dev. boxes won't be heavily used)
Linux Test boxes possbile production:
Splunk Server for logging
My working ideas:
Purchase another T5500 configure the same as first and use RSYNC to sync 2nd T5000 datastore) as a backup.
2nd option for consideration
Main server can be ESXi only (Free Edition) 2nd server will be ESXi/FreeNas AIO and operate as a backup of main system and a test bed for non critical systems and data.
Primary reason for choosing T5500 cheap dual CPU system with lots of memory.
Quiet operation for a small office.
! draw back i'm seeing is there is no IPMI support for remote BIOS access if an issue occurs.
Which direction do you think I should go with? Suggestions?
