I have trouble connecting to my freenas in the Time Machine role. I followed the instructions on http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/Apple_(AFP)_Shares.

My Apple does not show freenas when starting Time Capsule. I do however get the following in /var/log/messages.

Thanks in advance!

Code:

Mar 14 11:55:14 freenas notifier: Starting netatalk.

Is there a reason you are running FreeNAS 8.2.0-BETA3? Upgrading to the current 8.3.2 or 9.2 release may resolve your issue.

Hi, as the post heading says I currently run FreeNAS-9.2.1.2-RELEASE-x64 (002022c). I just forgot to change my signature. So no 9.2 does not resolve my issue.

There's no reason whatsoever to still use a beta that is over a year old. Upgrade to a release version as krikboh says, then see if the issue returns.

Not to step on anybody's toes but the title is quite clear to me no matter what his signature is .... As i am not seeing it anyways because of tapatalk.

Yeah, the signature has been updated. I generally ignore the title anyway since they are all mostly useless anyway.

I don't consider it trolling nearly as much as pointing people to the answer instead of giving it to them. I'm more about teaching people to fish than feeding them. Especially since I've prepared a damn feast for people and they didn't want to be inconvenienced with having to cook it in the oven!

Can we stick to the issue, please! Issue is still not solved and no resolution from any of you yet.

It seems I have the same problem. CIFS/AFP works find but TimeMachine doesn't work.
To me it seems like there ist a Problem with bonjour/zeroconf as TimeMachine doesn't accept the share.

LOL. You are 100% correct. Not to slam you or give you bad news, but have you searched the forums on your topic? I've been here for a while, and I can tell you I've never seen someone resolve the problem you are having. Many Time Machine users have the problem, but many more don't. One of our forum mods here uses Time Machine, and he says he's never had the problems others have. As an Apple user you are in the minority by a long shot. Unfortunately there really aren't any Apple users in the forum as regulars that can even give pointers for finding the problem. :(

Does it mean I should go back to my custom configured Linux? For me TimeMachine is essential and I didn't have a problem to set up / configure it on Linux.

I won't presume to tell you what you should or shouldn't do. I simply provide information or point people in the direction of the information. How they want to use that information or how that information applies is for them to decide.

I have not upgraded to the latest FN version yet on my production environment. Still on 9.2.0. Let me get back home from Moscow, and I will check for you on a fresh install of 9.2.1.2.
As I have multiple macs with multiple versions of osx i think this will be relevant. I estimate i will finish testing tomorrow evening as my plane lands tomorrow early morning.

Thanks. My Mac reports OS X 10.9.2 (13C64). I'm connnected to the FreeNAS box through a wireless router. I could test wired as well, but I don't think this will be the issue in this case.

By the way, for this to work is an AirPort router mandatory or should this work across any wireless/wired router?

Upgrading to FreeNAS-9.2.1.3-BETA-e3f3e20-x64 resolved my issue.

Does anyone have a clue how to change the thread status from "Problem" to "Solved"?
