So I have followed through the posts on the thread here

http://forums.freenas.org/showthread.php?1001-FreeNAS8-and-ActiveDirectory

Mainly following the process from mr_mike_m post #6 but I have spent the last few days trying to AD to work.

The error I get is in the log below, I haven't seen this anywhere in all my searching. Anyone else come across this issue?

Any help appreciated! Thanks

Before upgrade to 8.0.1 I was able to login with AD password, now it's impossible.

Do you have any idea how to deal with that?

Thanx.

This eval 1: Syntax error: word unexpected (expecting ")") is really weird, looks like something corrupted..

Did you try 8.0.2? Or another USB Stick?

Hey, thanks for quick answer! But neither installing FreeNAS 8.0.2 nor trying with another usb stick helped me :( As I analysed the log, I found that avahi-daemon might not be running. Here is what I get when I change sth in any user oprions eg. user's full name:
Code:

Oct 27 11:27:17 arachne freenas: Stopping dbus.
Oct 27 11:27:17 arachne avahi-daemon[3410]: Disconnected from D-Bus, exiting.
Oct 27 11:27:17 arachne freenas[1975]: Executing: /usr/sbin/service dbus restart
Oct 27 11:27:17 arachne freenas: dbus not running? (check /var/run/dbus/dbus.pid).

Another weird thing is that when I want to edit Active Directory service preferences, the Administrator's password field is empty -- I suppose there should be some asterisks covering the previously entered password. After retyping, saving and going to the service options it's gone again.

Wbinfo also fails, when I try to run it over ssh:
Code:
[root@arachne] ~# wbinfo -u
Error looking up domain users

Is there sth in user's options that can cause the problem? -- I have no spaces or escape signs in any field.

If you have any ideas -- please write.

Thanx.

Not really, we did choose to do not show the password again, for security reasons.
But it is there in the database, and will remain the same if you dont overwrite it.

Sorry, I'm really out of ideas here, I've never seen that kind of problem before, this "eval" error is pretty weird tho

Pay attention with Active Directory. My experience was terrible. I have activate the Active Directory and after that my SBS2003 Sp2 have big problems with Active Directory and DNS Server and no services like Exchange and SQL not started. During 1 day and half my company was stopped and finally I solved the problems in 95%.
I will never use this option!!!!!

I'll try once more to reinstall FreeNAS but without settings import afterwards. Maybe importing old settings is causing those problems.

Anyway, thank you for your help :)

[solved]

ok, so the problem was that the administrator password had ( sign. Thus it was improperly parsed. Now I don't get the eval error, but still I cannot login with AD pass. But I think that's the problem I'll handle somehow. Thanks for help.
