I have been running into an issue with slowness on my VMs running on an NFS share from my FreeNAS box. When I looked at the statistics it shows that it is staying wired at 5.9 GB all the time. Attached is the screenshot of this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Forgot to mention I have 4 1TB drives setup in ZRAID2

My System
FreeNAS Build FreeNAS-8.0.3-RELEASE-x64 (9395)
Platform Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz
Memory 8177MB
Load Average 0.00, 0.02, 0.02
OS Version FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE-p5

This is the expected behavior AFAIK... ZFS is a memory hog, it will use as much memory as it can get... (capped at about 80% i think).

How slow are you getting?

It seems thought that it is causing my VMs to run slow is their something I can do to tweak performance. I am running ESXi 4.0.

Thanks

It's not clear if the VM shares physical memory with freenas.
Freebsd and zfs will claim most of the memory, thats the intended behaviour
and it's most likley what you want (even if you don't understand that right now)

Okay it is probably my ESXi environment that is causing the slow down. Thanks to the both of you for the information. This is my first setup of FreeNAS so I am still learning all of the basics. Any way thanks again
