Free NAS over Windows

I am doing some research on how I should run this on my computer this computer has windows but I wont be using this computer for windows functions should I wipe the windows XP file off of the computer and only run free NAS on it or should I run both. I also wanted to know how I get to the server from a different computer to edit settings. thank you for reading this post and a reply would be greatly appreciated.
