Force a jail to use 2nd NIC

I am trying to force a the transmission plugin/jail to use 2nd nic which is a completely separate network from the first.

My current config is re0: 192.168.1.250
and re1: 10.1.1.2

The transmission jail is set for an ip of 10.1.1.50/24
all other options are blank and the NIC is set to re1.
However I am unable to ping anything other than 10.1.1.2 and 10.1.1.50 from within this jail.
Another computer on this subnet can ping 10.1.1.2 but not 10.1.1.50.

What am I doing wrong here?

Does setting the default gateway in the jail's gui config fix it?
