Someone tell me this thing wouldn't make the best SLOG for a ZIL.

I wish there was a price in the review.

Looks like it would be good. I have heard of some others using something like it based off of ram that was installed into a PCI slot and have also seen ones that use ram and SATA controllers. The only downfall is relying on a battery, at some point it will get weak and if a system does not perform an orderly shutdown it could hurt. Well and the cost since they are a rarely used device for general purposes.

It's hard to say. The latency in your average NVMe SSD is pretty good, and my impression is that there isn't a lot of extra boost to be had from further reductions there, as compared to perhaps things like software optimizations (ZFS, protocol, etc).

I think the price is really key here, if the 8GB or 16GB version can compete with a DC P3700 in price then it might be perfect.

I doubt it will. My guess is around 900 to 1000 for a 64GB or 128GB version. The Intel drive is 400GB for 920, the ram drive will be faster but at a much higher price ratio.

The people willing to pay a price premium probably need a larger SLOG device than that, though.
