I am in the process of gathering parts to build a NAS to replace an old QNAP TS-453a device.

I currently have

Cooler Master CM 690 iii case
M.2 NVME SSD for containers/VM’s or cache
2 Samsung EVO 970’s for boot device
32GB DDR4 2400Mhz memory - not ECC though
4*6TB WD Red Plus drives – currently in QNAP NAS

Still required

Motherboard
CPU
Memory
4*10TB WD Red Plus drives
I will be installing Truenas Scale on the system.

Any advice on suitable motherboard, CPU & memory. I would like the NAS to be as quiet as possible, if not silent. The NAS will be used as media storage for Plex which is installed on another PC via docker, the share will be mounted to that device. Also being used to backup 2 PC’s, a couple of Android phones & nextcloud.

The plan is to backup the existing NAS to external USB drives, then copy the data over to the new NAS. Eventually I would like to install the 4TB drives as well but. It straight away.

Would the above work or cause some problems? I have put together a possible build on PC partpicker linked below

Decided to only use the 4 10TB drives & go for a I3-9100 CPU.

Any advice on the best motherboard to pair with the CPU.
