First Nas

I am planing on making a cheap nas using trueNas, I was wondering if the drives format when making a pool, because I have the information in a drive and I was wanting to use it in the nas, but it has all the information in there. Also what would you suggest would make a higher impact on performance if I want to use it a storage nas and as a plex server.

No drive data is preserved during pool creation.
Plex transcode will use a lot of CPU, NAS not much at all.
