New drive in and currently running badblocks. Hopefully by this time tomorrow I will have a set of drives I can build with :)

The smart output is a bit different for this drive.
Code:
[root@freenas] ~# smartctl -a /dev/ada5
smartctl 6.5 2016-05-07 r4318 [FreeBSD 10.3-STABLE amd64] (local build)

2.5 years isn't that long for a 24/7 drive
It's only 10 billion rotations :p

Ok Drives are ok and I have setup a RaidZ2 vdev.
I didnt see where to set the Ashift value and when I checked it, it was Ashift=9.
How do I set this when setting up the vdev?

Hi Wooly,

I'm considering the same motherboard.
It doesn't have video out, so you wouldn't be able to use IGP on your i3.
I assume you put a graphics card later in the build (can't see it in the pictures you posted, but can see a monitor with test output :)).
After you finished testing, did you leave the graphics card in the machine to allow it to boot, or did you remove the graphics card and run headless?

I'm not sure whether Asrock e3v5 WS will boot without a graphics card and whether FreeNAS can boot and run without it (or can "see" the i3 IGP with C232 chipset).
Appreciate your help.

Correct i am using a cheap low end pci-e card.
I haven't tried to start it up without the graphics card.
They dont seem to offer a board with an IGP display connector

Thanks, Wooly.

C232 chipset does not support IGP graphics, unfortunately. I suspect the only way to avoid a PCI-e graphics card on a C232 would be a server motherboard, like Gigabyte MW21-SE0, with Aspeed AST1400 graphics on the board.

Here in Oz it costs roughtly as much the Asrock e3v5 and a GT710 together...

You also get more PCI-e buses on the E3V5.
  1. 2 PCIe 3.0 x16, 3 PCIe 3.0 x1 VS 1x 3.0 x16 , 1x 3.0 x4 1x 3.0 x1
Not really. The Skylake has pretty much the same connectivity to and from the CPU as Haswell/Broadwell and Sandy/Ivy Bridge (PCIe version improvements aside). The C23x PCH effectively switches more PCIe lanes than C22x, but the uplink to the CPU is still a 4x PCIe 3.0 link.
