Just posting this to make sure I haven't done anything boneheaded in my component selection.

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230V3 Haswell 3.3GHz LGA 1150 80W Quad-Core Server Processor BX80646E31230V3 (The 1240v3 isnt much more expensive and has hyperthreading. Is that worth upgrading to?)

MOBO: SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SL7-F-O uATX Server Motherboard LGA 1150 Intel C222 DDR3 1600

RAM: SAMSUNG 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 ECC Registered Server Memory Model M393B1K70DH0-CK008/Q8/E8 X 4 (This is the only component im really concerned about. I used the memory selector on the supermicro site, but none of the modules were available on newegg, this seemed the closest, does anyone have a better newegg or amazon suggestion?)

Case: Rosewill 1.0 mm Thickness 4U Rackmount, Black Metal/Steel RSV-L4411

Drives: 2x Seagate 3tb, 2x WD Red 3tb, 2x HGST Deskstar NAS 3tb in RaidZ2 (I would have gone with 4tb but i alread have 3 of these drives. They are all 64mb chache and the segate and the hgst are 7200 rpm) I have plans to add a second 6 drive raidz2 pool later

Power Supply: SeaSonic SS-520FL2 520W

Im excited to get this all in and start building!

Welcome .. The X10SL7-F-O Supports Unbuffered ECC Ram 32gb max.. The 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 ECC Registered Server Memory isn't compatible.. You are right to question it.. Take a look at the kingston ram I have.. Everything else looks good.. Not sure about rackmount stuff.. I keep it simple with a beigbox at the moment.. Will the drives be mirrored in pairs? Not sure about your needs CPU may be overkill..

Awesome. Ill be switching the registered memory for Kingston 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 ECC Unbuffered Server Memory w/TS Model KVR16E11/8. Even after looking at all the explanations and pictures its still kinda easy to get confused between all the different types.

I was mainly picking that processes because it was recommended in the guide, I want to use Plex to transcode so I figured the extra power would help.

What do you mean will the drives be mirrored in pairs? I was just going to use all 6 to make a raidz2 pool.
